Raymond Witham Daum was a media specialist active from the 1950s to 1980s. He attended the University
of Southern California film school before joining the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served as a
cameraman in the Army? Combat Photography Unit. Daum worked in New York throughout the 1960s and 1970s
and conducted oral history interviews for Columbia University from 1977 to 1983. He served as Gloria
Swanson's personal archivist from 1980 and left New York for Texas after her collection was acquired by
the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas. He worked at the Center from 1983
to 1991. His friendship with actress Greta Garbo was documented in his book, "Walking with Garbo,"
published in 1991.
