Description
The Robert Garland Jr. drawings span 3 linear feet and date from circa 1959 to circa 1990. The collection consists of one flat file folder containing two different projects: the Esther Bear residence remodel and a sketch of an unidentified building. Four architectural drawings in the form of reprographic copies document the Esther Bear residence remodel. Drawings, which are all dated December 5, 1961, include: floor plan, plot plan, sections, details, and an electrical plan. The pencil sketch of an unidentified building is undated.
Background
Robert Garland Jr. was born in Jackson, Tennese in 1927. He attended the University of Illinois, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1952. Following Garland’s time at the University of Illinois, he received a Fulbright fellowship in 1954. He established his owned firm in 1959 in Santa Barbara, California. Robert Garland Jr. died on November 24, 2004. Over the course of his career his principle works include: the Linsburgh residence, the Sansum Clinic research building, Stoltz Office building, the Thornton Howell residence and the Elman Service residence.
