This is a collection of papers and newspaper clippings regarding the residents of the Tuscarora Reservation from 1816-1937.
Newspaper clippings feature images of residents of the Tuscarora Reservation, and one resident's house. This collection includes
a handwritten and a typed copy of an extract from a letter from a clergyman in Ontario, New York, originally written 1816
August 1. The copy itself is undated.
Another item in the collection is an article sent from Sophia R. J. Cain to her sister Ann E. Jackson Lloyd regarding the
New Years festivities occuring at the Tuscarora Reservation in 1937. The handwritten manuscript by Cain includes taped-in
photographs and illustrations, and it has a note of a 600-word count at the bottom of the last page.
The Tuscarora Reservation is in Niagara County, New York. The Tuscarora are a federally recognized tribe and the Sixth Nation
of the Haudenosaunee or Iroquois Confederacy active before the American Revolutionary War. In 1803, the US government granted
the Tuscarora a reservation in Niagara County.
