History

Germany invaded neutral Denmark on April 9, 1940 as part of Operation Weserübung, the plan for attacks on Denmark and Norway. After Denmark's surrender, Germany established a protectorate government. The Danish public became increasingly resistant to the German occupation as time wore on and on Aug. 29, 1943 the Germans dissolved the Danish government and instituted martial law. Denmark was liberated by British forces on May 5, 1945.

Scope and Content of Collection
