The collection is only minimally processed, but is open for research. Please contact the Department of Special Collections
and Archives in advance to request access. Access to original audio visual material is restricted; users must request viewing
copies. Box 1 folder 5 contains photos of victims of violence that are graphic and potentially disturbing.

Collection Scope and Content Summary
The collection includes correspondence, briefing books, photographs, media, documents and reports detailing the work of the
Interagency Task Force for Indochina Refugees which oversaw the evacuation and resettlement of refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia
and Laos between 1975 and 1983. Among these materials are a briefing book used by IATF director Julia Taft and some of her
correspondence. Also included are reports documenting Vietnamese refugee camps in Guam and the resettlement of Indochinese
refugees in the United States. The collection also contains miscellaneous papers collected by Department of State diplomat
Larry Clinton Thompson for the purpose of writing his book, Refugee Workers in the Indochina Exodus, 1975-1982. This collection
also contains materials related to the Refugee Act of 1980, including a series of telegrams from the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Services (INS) headquarters to INS officers in the field to correct the high rejection rates of Cambodian refugee
applicants in Thailand.
