The UC Irvine
Department of African American Studies was founded in 2016. It began as a multidisciplinary
program for African American studies within the School of Humanities, offering a minor
starting in 1991, and a major in 1998. This collection contains proposals, constitutions,
and additional information on the approval for the African American Studies minor and major.
It documents planning and long range development, course development, program review,
events, guest speakers, and department administration.
