Description
These scrapbooks contain correspondence, pamphlets, clippings, speeches, invitations, and other material relating to White's
political career, particularly during his term as U.S. Senator. The bulk of the material concerns his involvement in the
"Free Harbor controversy."
Background
San Francisco born lawyer who practiced in Los Angeles, where he also became prominent in Democratic Party politics. He served
in the U.S. Senate (1893-99), where he championed the creation of a harbor for Los Angeles at San Pedro.
