The award is named for Harry Kurnitz, an American playwright and screenwriter from New York and Los Angeles who spent a portion
of his life in Europe. The award is also known as "The Harry Kurnitz Foreign Students Creative Writing Award" and "The Kurnitz
Award." This award is given annually.
