The Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial is a yearly celebration in Gallup, New Mexico which features parades, powows, rodeos
and much more. The Ceremonial began in 1921 as a coming together of Native Americans for the purpose of sharing their culture,
friendship and to see family. As the Ceremonial developed, tourists came to share in these events and the traders saw an opportunity
to expand Ceremonial by including the opportunity to buy Native American arts, such as pottery, rugs, jewelry and carvings.
Many books will credit much art with winning a prize at Ceremonial. There was a sense of celebration and sharing that was
the core of Ceremonial.
