Charles Henry Peterson was a Union volunteer from Salem, New Jersey who fought in the US Civil War. He participated in the Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, and Petersburg campaigns.

The Charles H. Peterson Pocket Diary Collection documents his participation in the Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, and Petersburg campaigns during the US Civil War. He tucked notes, correspondence, currency, and newspaper clippings between the pages.
