Biographical/Historical note

Dee Thao, a Hmong immigrant was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and came to the United States as a child. Thao, a student at California State University, Chico received an Office of the Provost, Undergraduate Awards for Research and Creativity grant to create this film the summer 2012.

Scope and Contents note

Thao studies her family’s journey to the United States seeking a connection to her Hmong heritage. Her family became refugees from Laos during the Vietnam War. The documentary begins at her family home in Oroville California. Thao along with Tony and Dagmar Waters, travel to Thailand and Laos. They visit refugee camps including the one she where she was born in Thailand and meet family members who stayed behind.
