The Gwen Wakeling costume design drawings span the years 1942-1966 (bulk late 1950s-1960s) and
encompass approximately 16 linear feet. Wakeling's freelance film career and her theater and television
career from the late 1950s through the 1960s make up the bulk of the material. The collection contains
more than 600 costume design drawings, including approximately 150 drawings for films, 50 for television,
and 190 for stage productions. There are more than 200 unidentified drawings.
Gwen Wakeling was an American costume designer active from the 1930s to 1960s. She married writer-
director Henry J. Staudigl. Wakeling received an Academy Award for color costume design for SAMSON AND
16 linear feet of papers.
