Description
Betty Jane Powell (1921-2012) was a long-time resident of the Sacramento area who worked many years for Sacramento City Unified School District and contributed thousands of volunteer hours to local service organizations and libraries. This collection of correspondence, business records, photographs andother material documents the history of her family in Omaha, Nebraska; Dixon, Illinois; and Sacramento, California (bulk) from the 1850s through the 2000s.
Background
Betty Jane Powell (1921-2012) was a long-time resident of the Sacramento area who worked many years for Sacramento City Unified School District and contributed thousands of volunteer hours to local service organizations and libraries. The only child of James Clinton Powell (1888-1968) and Armeda Powell (1886-1976), she was born on April 26, 1921. Her father, James Clinton Powell, was the son of Omaha Superior court judge Clinton N. Powell (1853-1902) and Mary A Powell (b. 1856). He was a native of Omaha, Nebraska, but lived in the Sacramento area for 55 years, working 43 of those years for Crane Company. Mary A. Powell's parents were James A. Hawley and Mary A. (Gardner) Hawley of Dixon, IL.
