Abstract: The Academic and Professional Women of UCI is a long-standing group dedicated to supporting staff, faculty, and students with an emphasis on supporting the women of UCI. Their stated goals are: to develop an awareness amongst faculty, staff, and other campus entities about the contributions of women to the mission of UCI, to provide activities and support other campus groups in contributing to the advancement of women at UCI, to create networking and communication spaces for women, as well as serve as a space for the women to collectively contribute to the decision making process on campus and in the community especially in issues directly affecting women. Amplify Womxn of UCI: Hearing Our Stories, an initiative within the Academic and Professional Women of UCI, was video series described by its creators as a way to aid in the eradication of anti-Black and anti-inclusive mindsets through 5-minute mini interviews in which guests (UCI staff, faculty, and retirees) share their personal experiences with discrimination and/or profiling based on race, gender, disability, and/or other pieces of their identity. The Amplify series took inspiration from the Black Lives Matter Movement and sought to create a space for the women at UC Irvine to be heard. These videos were shared on the UCI Media youtube page as well as the Amplify Womxn of UCI website. This collection contains the unedited footage from the nine interviews conducted by the Amplify Womxn of UCI: Hearing Our Stories program.

Amplify Womxn of UCI: Hearing Our Stories 2020-2021

Scope and Contents Note

This series contains the raw footage from 9 separate interviews conducted from 2020 to 2021 by the Amplify Womxn of UCI: Hearing Our Stories program. The program was described by its creators as a way to aid in the eradication of anti-Black and anti-inclusive mindsets through 5-minute mini interviews in which guests (UCI staff, faculty, and retirees) will share their personal experiences with discrimination and/or profiling based on race, gender, disability, and/or other pieces of their identity. The Amplify series took inspiration from the Black Lives Matter Movement and sought to create a space for the women at UC Irvine to be heard. These videos were shared on the UCI Media youtube page as well as the Amplify Womxn of UCI website.
These digital interview recordings, ranging from 34 to 54 minutes, cover a range of topics, including the Covid-19 Pandemic, rise in xenophobia and anti-Asian sentiments, Black Lives Matter Movement and protest, as well as the interviewees' individual backgrounds and experiences within academia. Those interviewed were from different departments on campus and backgrounds, the list of interviews includes: Elizabeth Yi, Erika Hayasaki, Judy Tzuz-Chun Wu, Karen Andrews, Krystal Tribbett, Sydney Charles, Taum Larson, Thais Bouchereau, and Thuy Vo Dang.
