Ernest Albert Coxhead was born in England in 1863. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art and at the Architectural Association
in London, from 1883 to 1886. Between 1878 and 1883, Coxhead worked as an apprentice to George Wallis. During the year of
1883 he worked as a building supervisor for the architect Frederic Chancellor. In 1887, Coxhead and his brother Almeric joined
forces in Los Angeles to form the firm Coxhead and Coxhead. Four years later, in 1890, Coxhead and Coxhead relocated to San
Francisco, where they remained until retirement. Ernest Coxhead died in 1933.
The Ernest Coxhead drawings consist of three flat file folders of original drawings of residences and a memorial, all dating
circa 1895.
