This document describes the discharge of Roman Samano from the 1st Battalion of the Native Cavalry of California Volunteers at the end of the Civil War.

Private Román Samano (1844-1902), a native of Mexico, moved to Santa Barbara in the 1850s. During the Civil War, he was a member of Company “C,” first battalion of the Native Cavalry of California Volunteers under Captain Antonio de la Guerra.
