The Madge Bellamy papers span the years 1888-1989 and encompass approximately 6 linear feet. The collection includes correspondence; clippings; writings by Bellamy; miscellaneous papers; the playscript, "Strictly Dishonorable," by Preston Sturges; scrapbooks; and photographs.
Background
Madge Bellamy was an American actress active in film from 1920 to 1935. Although she attained considerable popularity in the 1920s, contractual disputes led to her being employed only fitfully in the 1930s. In 1943 she regained headlines when she was involved in a shooting.
