Scope and Contents

The Ethel Wohlfert Scrapbook Collection contains a scrapbook created by Ethel Wohlfert. This collection consists of correspondence and ephemera which dates from 1938 to 1945. While materials were originally taped or glued onto pages of the scrapbook, almost all of the items have fallen off of their original pages, and are consequently arranged separately.
The collection is divided into two series, Correspondence (1938-1945) and Ephemera (circa 1938-1943).
Series I, Correspondence, consists mostly of letters, v-mail, and telegraphs to Ethel and her husband Emil from his brother Albert (Al) Wohlfert. Al was in the United States Air Force, stationed first at Hickam Field in Honolulu, Hawaii and then overseas in Europe during World War II. His letters discuss the airmen's attitudes about living and working at Hickam Field, advancement opportunities in the military, and his general health and life overseas. Also included are letters to Ethel from various girlfriends of Al's inquiring about his health and whereabouts, letters from family friends, and telegrams between Emil and Ethel after he joined the war effort in 1943. Items in the series are arranged chronologically.
Series II, Ephemera, consists of various items saved by Ethel, most of which are related to her family's service in the military. Items in the series include cartoons clippings from newspapers, ticket stubs from travel and money order transactions, Emil Wohlfert's enlisted man's pass to take a month's leave from his post in the army, and currency and stationery from a trip to Chihuahua, Mexico. Items in the series are arranged topically.

Arrangement of Materials:

Series I: Correspondence, 1938-1945
Series II: Ephemera, circa 1938-1943
