Scope and Contents

Bauman (1875-1950) was born into a German Baptist home in Pennsylvania; his father became a leader in the Progressive Brethren Movement in the 1880s and Bauman followed his example. He was ordained and pastored churches in Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Philadelphia, PA (1900-1908), Long Beach, CA (1913-1945) and Washington, D.C. (1948-1950).
At Philadelphia, he became active in support of foreign missions. He served as secretary of the Brethren Foreign Mission Society (1906-1945) and as a field representative for the Society (1908-1912). He was instrumental in the founding of Ashland (Ohio) College and, when his friend Alva J. McClain was dismissed as dean, he transferred his support, resulting in the founding of Grace Theological Seminary, Winona Lake, Indiana in 1937. Bauman was a prolific and influential author, contributing to the Sunday School Times and Light on Biblical Prophecy (1940) and Russian Events in Light of Bible Prophecy (1942). His papers are preserved on this edition of 1401 microfiche.
The originals of the Bauman papers are housed in the Morgan Library of Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana, and in the library of BIOLA University in La Mirada, California.
