Biography/Administrative History
William Lea Moore was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., in 1898, and came to California with his parents in 1907. After graduating
from Los Gatos High School, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the air services in France during World War I. Later he graduated
from the University of the Pacific in San Jose, and worked for 39 years for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. as a senior engineering
estimator. He died in June 1966.
Scope and Content of Collection
Correspondence and ephemera created by or collected by William Lea Moore during his service in World War I, as well as a series
of later family letters from the 1940s. A native of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Moore came to Los Gatos with his parents in 1907 and
served in the U.S. Army air services after graduating from Los Gatos High School. The bulk of the papers are letters written
by Moore to his family between 1917 and 1919.
