    Abstract: The Captain Dan Thomsen records and documents concerning Steam Tug Hercules (SAFR 17112, HDC 237) are dated from 1907 to 1951. The items include the original 1908 logbook kept by Captain Thomsen during the HERCULES epic maiden voyage from Camden, New Jersey to San Francisco via the Straits of Magellan. An "Incident at Astoria" was recorded by Captain Thomsen in 1911. Other items are a cash book with entries for HERCULES, navigation instructions, and a 1912-1913 pilot house log for the tugboat DEFIANCE. Most of the original material in this collection is in a fragile condition and has been photocopied. These photocopies are to be used for research purposes in place of the originals. The collection is available for research use as indicated.
