Abstract: Caroline Van Der Leck Lenz was born 1858 February 10 in Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Lorenz van der Leck
and Caroline Ginger. This collection consists of a 34-page manuscript, typed and edited by Lenz's daughter, Louise S. Lenz.
The memoir predominately includes information on early Los Angeles history, circa 1848-1873.

The memoir was published by the Historical Society of Southern California in the
Southern California Quarterly, volume 26, issue number 3, 1954 September.
Caroline Van Der Leck Lenz was born 1858 February 10 in Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Lorenz van der Leck
and Caroline Ginger. She passed away in 1940 at the age of 82.

This collection consists of a 34-page manuscript, typed and edited by Lenz's daughter, Louise S. Lenz. The memoir predominately
includes information on early Los Angeles history, circa 1848-1873. The memoir also describes the voyages taken by Caroline
Lenz's father from Germany to South America in 1838 and from South America to California in 1848. The memoir was dictated
by Caroline to Louise in 1931 to preserve "for [Caroline's] children and grandchildren the story of early California as [she]
knew it." The typed manuscript was also edited by Louise Lenz.
This collections also includes letters from Louise S. Lenz to the Southwest Museum, 1954 July 15 and from Frederick Webb Hodge
to Louise Lenz, 1954 July 19.
