Acquisition Information
The majority of the items were acquired by purchase at an estate sale on March 12, 2010 by a library staff member from Michael
and Frances Medlin. Additional items were donated directly by Beecher Medlin’s son, Michael Medlin.
Biography/Administrative History
Beecher Medlin was born in Gainesboro, Tennessee in 1932. In 1960 he moved to Pomona with his wife and children and worked
for General Dynamics for a year. He decided that he wanted to work more closely with the public so he accepted a job with
Texaco and eventually obtained his own service station located at Fourth and Mountain in Ontario. He and his family moved
to Ontario in 1964. Mr. Medlin decided to run for city council at the suggestion of friends and customers. Mr. Medlin was
elected in 1976 and served on the Ontario City Council from 1976-1990. He ran for a county supervisor seat in 1990 but lost
to incumbent Larry Walker; he retired from public office after this election. Mr. Medlin passed away August 13, 2006.
Scope and Content of Collection
Some of the items in this collection are 2-dimensional ephemera items which may be housed in 3-dimensional frames. The majority
of the collection consists of certificates and plaques, given to Mr. Medlin in appreciation by various local organizations.
