Abstract: This scrapbook documents the trip of a husband and wife in 1960, starting in Lakeland, Florida, on June 16th, 1960, and ending back in Lakeland nearly two months later on August 9th. While some of the pages of the scrapbook focus on states through which they passed, like Louisiana or Indiana, the majority of the pages focus on southwestern or western states, like Arizona and California, or western-themed locations like Dodge City, Kansas.
Physical Location: Researchers should contact Archives and Special Collections to request collections, as many are stored offsite.

Scope and Contents

"This album is filled with snapshot photos (157), postcards (217), newspaper clippings (35), booklets, brochures and souvenir publications (54), tickets, receipts, napkins, coasters and other scrapbook denizens (52) as well as the handwritten notations by one of the travelers on nearly every page.
Some of the places visited were: Bourbon Street, San Antonio, Lone Star Brewing Company, Pecos, Carlsbad Caverns, Fred Harvey's in New Mexico, the Petrified Forest, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland, the Huntington, Chinatown and Hollywood, San Gabriel, the Greek Theatre, Yosemite, San Francisco, Chinatown, Lakeside Park, Fisherman's Grotto, Lake Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Virginia City, Salt Lake City, Pioneer Village, Temple Square, Dinosaur National Monument, Rocky Mountain National Park, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Mountain, Boot Hill, Hannibal (Tom Sawyer Land), AnnArbor…then quickly through the east coast back to Lakeland."
