Description
This collection contains correspondence written by Cpl. Roy Albert Bradt, AEF to his girlfriend Gladys Davidson during the First World War. Also included is a one page biography of Cpl. Bradt.
Background
Corporal Roy Albert Bradt, American Expeditionary Force was born in Iowa in 1893. After some work with the Maytag Company, he served as a Corporal in the American Expeditionary Forces in the First World War from 1918 to 1919. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant Major and returned to Maytag as he worked in industry for the next 38 years until 1958. During that time and after, he was a scholar, a world traveler, and became notable for his civic contributions to San Clemente and Capistrano Beach in California. The great palisades reservoir, part of his vision, was later named for him as the Roy A. Bradt Palisades Reservoir. Bradt passed away in California in 1989.
