    Abstract: H.L. "Sea-biscuit" Heartwell served as a civilian attached to the United States Army Air Corps in China in the 1940s, and as a technician for the Chinese National Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (CNRRA) after the war. The collection contains items of clothing worn and collected by Heartwell during his time in China as well as four small wood carvings.

    Biographical Information:

    H.L. "Sea-biscuit" Heartwell joined the United States Army in 1941, first serving time in Hawaii after the Pearl Harbor attack. In 1942 he was given a special classification as a civilian attached to the Army Air Corps and sent to China. After the war, he signed on with the Chinese National Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (CNRRA) as a technician until his return to the United States in 1947.
