Scope and Contents

In 1899, the new Los Angeles City charter established a board of health and an elected city health officer, George Parrish, MD, who was the city health officer from 1924-1932 and from 1934 through 1943. The Bulletin was an irregular mimeographed publication first issued in 1934. Each issue was written by health officers in the Department on a current health topic. A total of 76 of these bulletins were written between 1934 and 1943 during the term of Dr. Parrish. The Los Angeles Department of Health remained a city agency reporting to the Board of Health Commissioners until July 1, 1964 when the Los Angeles County Health Department absorbed it. This collection is arranged chronologically by publication date.
