The United Artists Corporation was founded in 1919 by Charlie Chaplin, D. W. Griffith, Mary Pickford,
and Douglas Fairbanks as an independent releasing company, for the distribution of the productions of its
four co-founders. United Artists merged with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1981.
