Description
This collection contains personal papers of Rachel Granger Wegeforth mostly pertaining to real estate holdings.
Background
Rachel Granger Wegeforth was born on January 10, 1893, the daughter of Ralph Granger and Jessie Hastings Granger. Ralph owned two of the largest silver mines in Colorado and a large amount of real estate in downtown San Diego, part of Horton’s Addition. In 1916 Rachel married Dr. Harry Wegeforth, who later founded the San Diego Zoo. Rachel was a community leader and philanthropist, and in 1924 founded the Silvergate Riding Club.
