    Biography/Administrative History

    Boddy was the publisher of the L.A. Daily News beginning in 1926; another paper, the Post-Record, merged with the Daily News before becoming bankrupt in 1954. His home in La Canada was Rancho de Descanso, later established as Descanso Gardens. Boddy ran in the primaries for U.S. senator in 1950 and lost.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Photographs and negatives pertaining to Manchester Boddy. Copies of letters, manuscripts, an autobiographical sketch by Manchester Boddy; publications by Manchester Boddy "Leaves From an Editor's Notebook" or "Now and Then." Includes photographs of Daily News staff and the newspaper's General Manager, Robert L. Smith. Smith was also one of the first City Airport Commissioners, and the collection contains some images related to the commission. Several family photographs, including ones of Boddy in his youth. Citation on material: Robert M. Boddy Collection, Fort Bragg, California/Alan Hensher accessions. Other contributors: June Smith and Matt Weinstock.
