Biographical Note
San Francisco Bike Messenger Association was established in 1991 with the purpose of increasing incomes, securing employer
paid health insurance, implementing work safety programs, establishing a pension for retired workers, and promoting the status
of the messenger profession. SFBMA eventually sought union organization and formed an alliance with the Iternational Longshoremen
and Warehouse Union, Local 6 (2000-2001), enabling employees to fight for benefits due by employers and address wage and overtime
violations.
