Prior to current arrangement, Library Council records were organized into two record series: Library Council Minutes 1945-1959
(Record Series 268) and Library Council Reports 1949-1965 (Record Series 269). In August 2006 additional material was located;
the two record series were combined into one, Record Series 268, and renamed University of California (System). Library Council.

The University of California Library Council was created on October 10, 1945 by University of California President Robert
Gordon Sproul. The Library Council addresses library-related problems affecting more than one University of California campus,
implements consistent policy and practice, and determines the appropriate distribution of responsibilities.
Record Series 268 contains notes, meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, and memorandums generated by the University of
California Library Council.
