Description
The archive of inSite, an organization that produced collaborative contemporary public art projects in the San Diego-Tijuana region. The materials range in date from 1992 to 2006, and include publications, administrative files, audio and video materials, and digital materials which document the numerous projects created by inSite artists, as well as the daily functions of the organization.
Background
In 1980, Installation Gallery was opened in San Diego with a goal to present local and regional artists. In 1992, inSite was formed, replacing Installation Gallery. Created as a network of contemporary art programs and commissioned projects among non-profit and public institutions, inSite explored public or contextual art practice in the specific context of the San Diego-Tijuana border region.

Availability
Master copies of media located in Series 3) PROJECT MEDIA, Series 4) ADMINISTRATIVE FILES, and Series 5) IMAGE FILES are not available for use. In most cases, copies of the masters, produced by inSite and located in Series 3, Subseries A) Viewer Copies, are available for consultation. Viewing/listening copies of recordings and digital files may be available.
