City of Pekin; travels in Yokohama, Kobe, and Nagasaki (Japan); arrival in Vladivostok; social interactions with Americans and Russians; Chinese and Russian workers; establishment of a coal mine and camp as Chief Engineer. Also includes some pencil sketches by Allen.
