Abstract: Upon his death Harold C. Broderick A.S.I.D. (1925-2006) donated to the Palm Springs Art Museum his collection of materials
dealing with his association with the company Arthur Elrod Associates, Inc. along with some personal materials.
Arthur Elrod (1926-1974) began his interior design career at Bullock’s in Palm Springs, CA. In 1952 he left that position
and joined W. and J. Sloane Company in San Francisco. In 1954 he moved to Palm Springs and formed his own furniture and interior
design company, Arthur Elrod Limited. He later changed the name of the company to Arthur Elrod Associates, Inc. with offices
at 886 North Palm Canyon Drive and later 850 North Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. His company was quite successful in
designing interiors for the Hollywood elite and wealthy individuals across the country. Elrod was killed in an automobile
accident in 1974 but the company continued its work under the leadership of its President, Harold Broderick.
Unfortunately, when Broderick closed down the company and moved to Sonoma, CA, he retained only files he was particularly
interested in and discarded most of the remaining business records. The folder “Job folders filed in warehouse” (IE44) reflect
several hundred files of which only a few were retained in the collection. The collection also contains very little personal
material relating to Arthur Elrod. There are more personal materials related to Broderick than Elrod.
Language of Material: English
