California history cards, mission series, 1905, Braun Research Library Collection, Autry National Center, Los Angeles; MS.1320.
This collection consist of an informational pamphlet and fifty-two illustrated playing cards. Per the pamphlet "These cards
contain a comprehensive outline history of California under the rule of Spain, beginning with the discovery of the Pacific
Ocean, and including the missions. Each card is illustrated, and views of all the mission are given."
The text was prepared by Mary M. Bowman and Rose L. Ellerbe. The engravings of the half-tone illustrations were done by Mrs.
S.M. Sweet of the Commercial Engraving Company in Los Angeles.
Collection was originally part of the Francis Watkins papers and library, which was donated to the Braun Research Library
in 1987 by Watkins brother-in-law, Mr. A. R. Ameday.
