Marvin Borowsky was a screenwriter, novelist, and professor of screenwriting at UCLA and USC. Borowsky
came to Hollywood in 1940 after working for RKO Theatres and the Group Theatre in New York. In Hollywood,
he worked as a writer at 20th Century Fox, MGM, Warner Bros., Columbia, Universal, and Hecht-Hill-
Lancaster. The Marvin Borowsky Lecture was established by the Academy Foundation in 1974.
Collection Scope and Content Summary
The Marvin Borowsky papers span the years 1921-1982 (bulk 1960s) and encompass approximately 14 linear
feet. Most of the materials relate to Borowsky's literary and university teaching career, and consist of
correspondence, manuscripts, and research material on the subject of screenwriting. There are also a
handful of scripts and some files on the Marvin Borowsky Memorial Lecture in Writing for the Screen
gathered posthumously by his widow, Maxine.
