This collection comprises one sound disc of an oral history interview with Rudy Landesberg. The interview was conducted by David Sokolsky on behalf of the Holocaust Media Project on November 13, 1988. Rudy Landesberg is a Holocaust survivor.
The interview describes Ms. Landesberg's childhood in Ostrova, Czechoslovakia; her marriage to a Polish Jewish engineer in 1938; the invasion of Ostrova by Nazi Germany in March 1939; and her husband's decision to return to Poland. Ms. Landesberg describes their attempts to leave Czechoslovakia; her husband's success in crossing the border by jumping off a train; and his offer of employment in Turkey and move there. She discusses obtaining a Polish passport while awaiting a move to Poland; difficulties in Czechoslovakia for Jews; and her flight across the Polish border in June 1939. Ms. Landesberg describes obtaining a visa to Turkey in Warsaw; living with her husband in Sivas, Turkey; and their decision to emigrate to the United States. She discusses her husband obtaining visas to the United States; their move to the United States; and adapting to life in a new country.
