Series 1: Lectures and Publications. 1959-2002.

Language of Materials: This series contains some material in German.

Scope and Content

Weiner wrote over 200 articles in his lifetime; this series includes a non-commercially published, bound six volume series of Weiner's collected article publications. It also includes copies of his two books, Psychobiology and Human Disease and Perturbing the Organism: The Biology of Stressful Experience, a manuscript for an unpublished book entitled, “The Behavioral Basis of Medical Practice,” as well as several other unpublished, less complete book manuscripts on various psychosomatic topics. There are extensive notes and lectures (for courses at UCLA and conference talks elsewhere) on the history of physiology as a discipline, his research on anorexia nervosa and stress, related psychosomatic research he was engaged in, and the necessity of reforming medical school curricula. Of particular note are his notes for his 1990 Thomas Salmon lecture, a prestigious award and lecture series given to experts in the field of psychiatry.
