The collection primarily comprises promotional cards, flyers, and posters; publicity photographs; and media reviews regarding events and performers promoted at Josie's Cabaret and Juice Joint, bulk 1991-1998. A Castro institution for 10 years, Josie's Cabaret and Juice Joint provided a location for plays, comedy acts, and other events.
Background
A Castro institution for 10 years, Josie's Cabaret and Juice Joint provided a location for plays, comedy acts, and other events. Ron Lanza co-founded the Gay Teachers’ Coalition in 1975 with Tom Ammiano and activist Hank Wilson. In 1982, he and Wilson created the influential gay cabaret and performance venue that preceded Josie’s, Valencia Rose Café.
