Description
Robert E. MacMaster was a prominent historian of Russian History and Literature. His major work, “Danilevsky: A Russian Totalitarian Philosopher,” is the only full-scale biography on the controversial, yet very significant Russian philosopher of the 19th century. The collection contains research materials used by Dr. Robert E. MacMaster including extensive notes, research materials, personal notes and personal letters.
Background
Robert E. MacMaster (1919-2008) was a prominent historian of Russian History and Literature at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and served as Chair of the History section from 1970-1972. He was educated at Harvard Graduate School where he studied the classics of Russian and Germanic literature. Professor MacMaster authored the definitive work on Nikolay Yakovlevich Danilevsky entitled, “Danilevsky: A Russian Totalitarian Philosopher,” (1967). This collection includes research notes on Tolstoy,Fyodor Dostoevsky and Nikolay Yakovlevich Danilevsky among other Russian thinkers.
