    Abstract: The Paul Christopher collection of Carl W. Knight's photographs consists mainly of photographs, negatives, and slides of portraits and scenic views of Missouri and Southern California. In addition to the images, there are a few textual items that include financial documents, newspaper clippings, miscellaneous ticket stubs and pamphlets that Knight collected, and correspondence (mostly postcards) to or from Carl Knight's sister, Pansy M. Knight. The date span of the collection ranges from 1920 to 1970.

    Biographical note

    Carl Wells Knight was born on March 24, 1885 in Springfield, Missouri to Emma Lamb Knight and George Wells Knight. He had one sister named Pansy and a brother named Harry. By trade, Carl was a professional photographer and owned a studio in Springfield, Missouri. During World War I Carl served in the military. Ultimately, he moved to California after completing his military service. Knight worked in both Los Angeles and San Diego photographing homes, commercial endeavors, and people's portraits. He operated a studio in San Diego with his partner, Sherman Trease, called the Trease-Knight Studio. He also worked for Stuart Studio in Los Angeles, California around 1936. Carl died on June 15, 1984 in Los Angeles, California.

    Scope and Content

    The collection consists mainly of photographs, negatives, and slides of portraits and scenic views of Missouri and Southern California. In addition to the images, there are a few textual items including financial documents, newspaper clippings, miscellaneous ticket stubs and pamphlets that Knight collected, and correspondence (mostly postcards) to or from Carl Knight's sister, Pansy M. Knight.
