International News Photos, San Francisco Bureau Slug (Emperor Norton I). San Francisco, California - churchmen, and civic
leaders paid tribute to San Francisco's famous Emperor Norton at reburial at Woodlawn Cemetery. A tombstone, perpetuating
the memory of the self-appointed "Monarch" was unveiled as soldiers fired a salute. The inscription - Norton I, Emperor of
the United States and Protector of Mexico. Joshua A. Norton -- 1819-1880. Photo shows L.2.R.: John McLaren, San Francisco
