This is the charter document for the Santa Clara Parlor No. 100 of the
Native Sons of the Golden West. Granted on November 21, 1902, the names listed include a
number of distinguished Santa Clara residents of that time: John A. Day, W.H. Killam,
A.G. England, Albert Cottrell, Alphonsus Ruth, Geo. Schultz, Chris Emig, A.C. Bender,
Dr.G.W. Fowler, Hugh Menton, Frank Menzel, Hugh Fitzpatrick, G. M. Warren, Matt Walsh.
The charter ceremony was held at the Red Men's hall in Santa Clara. An article about the
Native Sons organizing appeared in the Santa Clara News, Tuesday, November 18, 1902.
Santa Clara NSGW member Roy Cilia was given this charter document by Richie Castro, a
former Secretary of the Santa Clara parlor. Mr. Cilia will soon be donating and
delivering this certificate to the Museum of the Native Sons of the Golden West in
Columbia State Historic Park where it will eventually be on display.
