Martinez, Cal, Nov. 26, 1912. My Dear Cousin:- I am very glad to learn by your last letterwritten by Maggie that you are
still well enough to be up everyday, and that Maggie also is unusually well. As far as I haveheard from the family out here,
we are all about as usual. Iam now very busy writing a book on Alaska. I hope that sometime next spring I shall have the pleasure
of sending you a firstvolume of my autobiography entitled My boyhood and youth , whichwill recall, my dear cousin, the time
when you used to torment mewith kisses on the stone stairs when I was going up to grandfathersto learn my lessons. Enclosed
you will find 100. With one-half of it, buysomething to add to your comfort, the other half to be distributedamong the poor.
Ever your affectionate cousin, John Muir 053041
