The American Society of Landscape Architects is planning a movement to arouse public interest in and appreciation of the layout
and purpose of Central Park. We wish to bring people to understand that it is a work of art of inestimable practical value
as a recreation ground to an immense population. Some such steps seem necessary because of the continual attacks on the integrity
of the Park made from many sides and the prevalent lack of organization and argument for its defense among a majority of those
who value it so highly. We wish to arrange one or more public meetings at which speakers with different points of view should
present the subject from many sides all tending to a similar conclusion, that of the preservation of the Park according to
the general intent of the original designers. We very much desire to have you present at the first meeting which can be arranged
to suit your convenience. Your reputation and personality would be of very great advantage 05168
