Today was received by Dr. White and another surgeon and they certified that I was [not] fit to travel to Washington and extended
my furlough twenty (20) days given. Uncle had the misfortune to books his (…) this afternoon, but I am glad that I am shy
and move him and still have the [company] of my loved Julie.
To Judith
<May thy life be happy, love, placid as the summer sea; like the quiet evening hour may thy thought as peaceful be.
And as time goes gently on, may no sorrows shade thy brow; but each hour be fraught with bliss, bright and joyous e'en as
now.
And when life is ended here, may thou gently sink to rest; sweetly pass away from earth, leaning on the Saviour's breast.>
