Very rainy and disagreeable. Received a letter from O.M.F. of Rochester in the afternoon. Attended worship in Regt. chapel also in the evening no news from home. Read most all day a book from the Regimental Library. Mottos A vain man's motto is win gold and wear it. A generous Man's win gold and share it. A miser's win gold and spare it. A Profligate's win gold and spend it. A Broker's win gold and lend it. A fool's win god and end it. A gambler win gold and lose it. A wise man's win gold and use it. Rather rainy. Procured a pass and went to Corps. Head Qrs. Also to later Div. Hd. Qrs. on my return received a gun and [accouterments?]. [Wrote?] to [OMF] in the Evening visited the Dr. and also worship in the chapel. The Golden Maxim A Sabbath well spent. Brings a week of content and health for the toils of tomorrow But a Sabbath profaned Whatso'er be gained is a certain for forewarner of sorrow - Anon. ------------------------------ April 3, Sunday.
