Shields is feeling very bad today, all quiet in the Rapidan except in [occasional] [picked shot] they probably [illegible] the pills we gave them as they gave them a very spiteful disposition, this afternoon visited the Corps Hospital arrived and [illegible] the mail. No letter for me, Col. Pierce cannot be [moved] the 7th Va. [illegible] went home today on a 30 day leave of absence, they have reinlisted. Fine day all quiet on the Rapidan. In the evening received letter from [home] also wrote home. ------------------------------ Feb.9, Tuesday. [same locale] Lieut.Shields is feeling very bad today. All quiet on the Rapidan, except an occasional picket shot. They probably dislike the pills we gave them as they gave them a very spiteful disposition. This afternoon visited the Corps hospital, arrived and got the mail, no letter for me. Col. Pierce cannot be moved, the 7th Va. Unioners went home today on a 30 day leave of absence, they have re-enlisted. [4.] Feb.10, Wednesday. (same locale) Leave day, all quiet on the Rapidan. In the evening received letters from home, also wrote home. Note: 4. The 7th West Virginia took advantage of the re-enlistment incentive.
