July 18,1889 My. Dear Mr. Muir, I arrived at the office yesterday morning, and found yours of the 28th of June, for which
I thank you. I left the city on the 25th, having been very closely occupied during the last three days. I wrote you a letter
from Chico, Which was the last resting place for the sole of my foot in California. You got rather more than your share of
attention from me in Northern California, as your peak was the only part of Mt. Shasta and Vicinity of which I was able to
see anything, the higher mountain being covered with clouds. I found Puget Sound region delightful and went as far as Victoria.
I can hardly forgive myself for not having made the attempt to go to Alaska on the Corona which took a number of my acquaintances,
including Prof. Bickmore of the Museum of Natural History in Central Park (a place of which I believe you have heard.) I
am this morning attending to your commission for a set of bound volumes of the Magazine -old and new series -to which I am
adding a set of Mr. Gilder's Poems for Mrs. Muir. I am greatly indebted to you for having added so substantially to the pleasure
of my visit in California, as 01369
